Self help mania
The Perfectionism illusion on social media
Perfectionism exists through marketing and copious amounts of super-human-self-help guru-platitudes --made famous through expert marketing on social media, not their actual content.
I know I have done this.
In our last move, I donated two boxes of self help books and one about how to get a flat tummy (or maybe two in tummy flatness genre - new flash- it’s don’t eat carbs and over exercise which I’ve also tried and ended up in misery).
I still struggle with thinking that other people who have more “popularity” or “directness” -have it all figured out.
The truth is - no one does.
I have muted /unfollowed all therapists (even though they may fabulous) and I gave up on the whole “self help guru” journey once I donated my box of flat abs and super happy brain books.
Not a diss on them- but a reflection on what I need -can’t come from someone else.
Today my “self help” is journaling - and reflection with simpler books (imprint app) that do not put branding and marketing the person who wrote the book - ahead of the actual message.

It can feel like we’re competing in a popularity contest.
